She was born to Kosovo Albanian parents Anesa Rexha and Dukagjin Lipa. The maternal grandparents of her are Bosnian. There is also a trace of Lipa's ancestral roots in Peja in Kosovo. The two grandfathers of Lipa were historians. They have a brother Gjin Lipa and a sister Rina. Lipa was heavily influenced by music by her father, who was the lead singer and guitarist of Oda, the Kosovan rock band Oda.
